Deux Lyrics
Shine
Nothing I hear lately sticks inside my head
Words pass through me like neutrinos
Through the ice core beneath my bed
Can’t find a thing in your perfect world
That could mean this much to you
Can’t count the words, count the things,
Count the times you looked right through me.
You looked right through me…
But I could be your new star
I could be the world in a box for you
I could be your Marvel hero
Hold me up, I’ll shine for you
Nothing I see lately could ever change my mind
The hours, the months, the years of indecision
I’ve left them all behind
When you’re all alone in this relentless world
And you fear the best is passed
You're how I see the future now
It comes so fast, it’s here so fast,
And I could be your new star
I could be the world in a box for you
I could be your Marvel hero
Hold me up, I’ll shine for you
This Old House
There’s something wrong with this house
You can see it from the street
I mean, even the roof looks angry
The windows are dark
What do they hide
I don’t want to know; I’d much rather just walk on by
But the voice in my head says to “go inside”
Eyes open wide; armor held high….
There’s no air in this room, the furnace blew out
Neglect takes it’s toll like a bandit with time
It’s dusty and dark, something’s not right
I open a window and let in the warm sun
Light hits the walls and this house simply jumps to life
It’s just bricks and wood, but the bones are still good
With a little love we can put this old house back together again
With a lot of love we can bring back the glory
With some blood sweat and tears we can turn back the years to a simpler time
It’s just bricks and wood, but the bones are still good
Maple and mahogany move to the light
Leaded glass and copper awaken
Beams of light are washing the cobwebs away
Little universes in motion
Fire up the furnace and let’s sweat tonight
We know it’s got a solid foundation
It’s just bricks and wood, but the bones are still good
With a little love we can put this old house back together again
With a lot of love we can bring back the glory
With some blood sweat and tears we can turn back the years to a simpler time
It’s just bricks and wood, but the bones are still good
Someday
Thought I knew my place and time, and where the lines were drawn,
Then I saw you across a gilded room, the world went upside down.
Now nothing they said makes sense anymore, when I hear you whisper -
Someday, there’ll be a place for us
Somewhere they’ll never find us,
We’ll float in pools of moonlight,
The river will surround us,
Taking us so very far from here.
Time ends, light bends ‘round the curves, the curves of your face.
Don’t breath, can’t let them know I’m here, let them find our place.
Your eyes, black as the dangerous night, clear as autumn rain -
Someday, there’ll be a place for us,
Somewhere they’ll never reach us,
We’ll walk the fields in sunshine,
Our children racing before us,
A place where we can grow old,
And never be apart.
Lullaby
Darlin’ go to sleep
May all your dreams be rich and deep
Time to let go of the day
There’s no more to say
Close your eyes and gently drift away
Baby rest your weary mind
Know that you’re safe and pure and kind
Time to escape from this world, my beautiful girl
Close your eyes and gently drift away
To where the angels fly
With the wind at your back and the stars in your eyes
Where the angels fly
Time to escape from this world, my beautiful girl
Close your eyes and gently drift away
To where the angels fly
With the wind at your back and the stars in your eyes
Where the angels fly
There’s no worries tonight
Close your eyes and sleep tight….
And it looks like you’re already there…
Go to sleep, precious one
Go to sleep
Bonfires
They think forever flows just like a river
But I know better - I’ve just come from the Delta
And I’ll be waiting for you
By the seashore, in the moonlight
Where you quietly take my hand
And you can fly, and turn to see the lights
That shine around the harbor
And all the distant cares that lie down there,
They’ll keep them ‘til tomorrow
And you and I will sit and talk about my gift
To see this, to feel this, to touch this
For all our time
“It’s all so futile…” you say into the mirror
“…all these plans will so soon be forgotten…”
And I try to catch you, if only for a moment
From a shadow, in the corner of your eye
To say you’ll fly and turn to catch the light
Of the bonfires by the river
And all the doubts and fears that fill these years
Will fade into tomorrow
And you and I will sit and talk about my gift
To see this, to feel this, to touch this
For all our time
They’re always pleading for a bargain I just can’t give them
Looking up, digging down, cashing in, selling out
To see this, to feel this, to touch this,
To hear this, to taste this, to hold this,
To try this, to fear this, to know this,
To love this, to dream this
Just one more time
I’m Waiting
Something’s coming, something green and growing - I can feel it
Something’s right there, right in front of me - I can touch it
Someday somber clouds will part and wash the sky with dignity
Somehow something ripe will bloom from this blackened earth
Somewhere swords will rise against the deafening hypocrisy
Sometime soon I promise you, I’m waiting, I’m waiting
Someone’s crying, someone’s simply dying to be born - I can feel it
I’m right there with you - fight the darkness, push ahead
Someday somber clouds will part and wash the sky with dignity
Somehow something ripe will bloom from this blackened earth
Somewhere swords will rise against the deafening hypocrisy
Sometime soon I promise you, I’m waiting, I’m waiting
For the Sun, for the Sun to come out and warm the earth
For the dawning, for the new growth, for rebirth - I’m waiting
Something’s coming, something green and growing - I can feel it
For the Sun, for the Sun to come out and warm the earth - I’m waiting
Stolen Heart
Some people take so easily, without a second thought
About the punishment for stealing something only love should have wrought.
And you never know what really lives behind a righteous smile
Worn to make sure that nobody sees into the heart of a child.
He must have taken so easily, but you could never let it show.
All you could do was find a place inside where no one else could go.
All this time and we could never see what was tearing you apart
Was your mission held so secretly, to reclaim your stolen heart.
Day after Day
Come down, come and stay beside me
When the moonlight staggers down these empty streets
No sound, only shadows moving
Like an old man walking straight out of a dream
He’s looking for something that’s so far away
A black and white photograph
Lost in the halls of memory - faded to gray
A streetlight breaks the reverie, and her image starts to shine
She’s coming back to him in Kodacolor light
Moments are streaming by, pictures of a life
And then the morning sun rose in a tangerine sky
And I needed you to
Come down, come and stay beside me
When the sun moves across the fields of green
We’re looking for something, it’s right in our hands
So close that we almost can’t see
The cords of experience, woven in love
While rain comes down like crinoline to the fields so far below
It falls on us standing here, right by the riverside: Day after day
Watching the amber leaves, endlessly go by
Here in the autumn rain, under a fleeting sky
I’m still asking you:
My love, won’t you stay beside me
When the snow falls across the fields of white?
When the woods, dark and deep, fill quietly with snow
The moments we choose to keep are all we really know
And someday a burning moon will float in an auburn sky
And I’ll be asking you:
My love, won’t you stay beside me
When the wind moves across the fields of light?
So Sorry
I wake up every morning, drag it out of bed and I’m lookin’ for an answer
There’s got to be a reason why
Half a pint of courage, starin’ out my window
Knowin’ that you’re out there; knowin’ that you don’t care
No conscience no regret, oh no
A psychopathic poser
Kick me to the curb and life goes on (and on)
You’ll never be lonely, all the boys come runnin’; they’re actin’ like the big men
You tell them that’s what you want
Never see the carnage, never see the pain if you look the other way
If you figure out what not to say
No conscience, no regret, oh no
You stole my life and then threw me away
Out with the old and life goes on (and on)
So Sorry
Two simple words from you I’ll never hear
So Sorry
You never learned how to love
And I’m so damned sorry I ever trusted you
So damned sorry I ever loved you and I did, you know
You just let me go
The meek shall inherit the Earth, oh no
Not until they spill some blood
Out with the old and life goes on (and on)
So Sorry
Two simple words from you I’ll never hear
So Sorry
You never learned how to love
And I’m so damned sorry I ever trusted you
Spread the dirt to kill the truth
So damned sorry I ever loved you and I did, you know
You just let me go
So sorry
Simple Love
See the girl, see her get married
See her travel ‘round the world and build a family of her own
Can you see the light that surrounds them?
It comes from deep within her
She’s got the gift of showing all her love, love, love
Things went wrong, without warning
A ship without a captain; alone with three young children
But the light was strong, like a beacon
And it filled our world with safety
And we felt the warmth and comfort of its love, love, love
Simple love
I will raise my glass and raise my voice
I will fill them both with love
Every day’s Thanksgiving from now on
And I thank the Lord above
She’s the Mom, she’s the Granny
She’s the friend and she’s the Sister, the favorite Aunt and Neighbor
She’s the glue, holds us together
She’s the one who’ll give you everything and never ask for anything
And the light; it came shining through
My God she is a fighter, ‘cause it’s burning so much brighter
With her love, love, love
Simple love
I will raise my glass and raise my voice
I will fill them both with love
Every day’s Thanksgiving from now on
And I thank the Lord above
